      Distance Records Fall On Friday At Pitt State, Vanderbilt

      PITTSBURG, Kan./NASHVILLE, Tenn. (2/11/22) – Competing in two separate meets, a pair of school records fell on Friday for the Arkansas State track and field teams.

      At the Indoor Gorilla Classic in Pittsburg, Kan., A-State’s men’s distance medley relay squad of Seth Waters, Kobey Hill, Lasse Funck and Bennett Pascoe shattered the previous school record by nearly 12 seconds, notching a time of 9:39.96 that is No. 2 all-time in Sun Belt history and currently ranks ninth in the NCAA.

      Later in the night in Nashville at the Music City Challenge, Sophie Leathers moved to the top of the charts in the women’s 5000m at A-State, breaking Kristina Aubert’s program record of 16:46.32 with a mark of 16:44.83.

      In the men’s long jump, Carter Shell finished as the top collegian at Vanderbilt, leaping an indoor-best 7.72m (25-4.0) to place second overall. Courtney Thomas finished seventh with a jump of 7.32m (24-0.25).

      Bradley Jelmert won the men’s pole vault in Nashville, clearing 5.22m (17-1.5), while Trace South cleared 4.92m (16-1.75) to place sixth.

      Earlier in the day in the seeded section of the men’s weight throw, Aimar Palma Simo hurled a season-best 19.60m (64-3.0) to place eighth in a field of nine throwers that included Olympian Daniel Haugh and multi-time All-American Denzel Comenentia

      In the men’s mile at Vanderbilt, Brady Pascoe clocked a personal best 4:17.23, while McKenzie Cornell ran a season-best 5:15.52.

      Also at Pitt State, rookie Isabel Daines finished ninth in the women’s 60m hurdles qualifying round, finishing in 8.95 to move on to Saturday’s prelims.
