STRUTHERS, Ohio. (10/18/25) – Senior Karli VanDuinen set the program record with five-game traditional pinfall of 1,259 pins to help the Arkansas State women’s bowling team climb to fourth in total pinfall after two days at the Penguin Classic hosted by Youngstown State.
Among three A-State bowlers in the top 10 individuals, VanDuinen averaged an impressive 251.8 pins. VanDuinen opened with a 279 against Lewis and followed with a 227 against Valparaiso and a 238 against Duquense before a 278 against Vanderbilt. She finished the day with 237 against Sacred Heart and her 1,259 total pins were 85 pins more than the next closest individual. Alex-Anne Auclair totaled 1,110 to ranks sixth, posting a high of 247 against Vanderbilt. Maggie Thoma was eighth with 1,098 pins, with a high of 245 against Vanderbilt. Kaylee Back downed 1,006 pins to rank 21st with a high game of 235 against Duquesne. Amanda Lang (861) rolled the final four games of the day and Katie Ruszczak had 168 in the first game.
A-State (9-1) was a perfect 5-0 in head-to-head matchups Saturday. A-State opened with a 979-932 tally against Lewis and followed with a 1,073-1,014 margin against No. 21 Valparaiso. The Red Wolves had a 151 advantage over No. 12 Duquesne and then defeated No. 3 Vanderbilt 1,160-1,027. A-State closed out the day with a 1,144-949 decision against No. 11 Sacred Heart.
Dropping an impressive 5,502 pins Saturday, the Red Wolves climbed from seventh after day one to fourth in total pinfall. A-State has totaled 10,332 pins, an average of 206.6, 110 back of Vanderbilt for second. Jacksonville State leads the field with 10,774 (215.5) with Nebraska second with 10,598 (212.0).
A-State will No. 3 Vanderbilt to begin Baker best-of-seven bracket play Sunday.
