    The legendary Patti LaBelle turns 78 years old today

    The soul singer was born on this day in 1944. Considered one of the greatest singers of all time, she got her big break in Patti LaBelle and the Bluebelles, which would eventually become the group Labelle.

    They were known for the hit songs “What Can I Do for You?”, “Isn’t It a Shame” and the 1974 no. 1 hit “Lady Marmalade.” Patti Labelle went solo in 1977 and would score big hits over the years, including “If Only You Knew,”  “New Attitude” and “On My Own,” which featured Michael McDonald.

    Patti Labelle has sold over 50 million records worldwide and she is the winner of two Grammys Awards. She continues to be a force on the stage.
