    Schmidt Holds Individual Lead; Red Wolves Third at First Coast Classic

    JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (2/14/22) – Back-to-back under par rounds has Arkansas State women’s golfer Olivia Schmidt atop the individual leaderboard and the Red Wolves third among 11 teams after 36 holes at the First Coast Classic that began Monday at Deerwood Country Club.
     
    Turning in her fifth and sixth consecutive rounds under par, Schmidt was the lone individual to post two rounds under par in cold and windy conditions Monday. Schmidt, ranked 91st in the latest Golfstat individual rankings, carded a bogey-free opening round 4-under par 68 and followed with a 3-under par 69 to post a 36-hole total of 137 (-7), four strokes clear of second place. Schmidt has gone par or better in eight of her last nine rounds, posting a stroke average of 69.11.
     
    Following an opening round 81 (+9), Charlotte Menager moved up 22 spots in the individual standings with a second round 73 (+1). Menager is tied for 16th at 10-over par 154 with teammate Casey Sommer (80-74). Elise Schultz (83-80) is tied for 43rd while Kayla Burke (82-88) is tied for 55th with Sydni Leung (92-78), who is playing as an individual.
     
    A-State is third among the 11-team field totaling 607 (+31) over the first 36 holes. The course played an average of +22.18 over par Monday with Western Kentucky (+16) leading Eastern Kentucky (+17) by one stroke for the team lead. The Red Wolves are tops among four Sun Belt Conference teams in the field, four strokes ahead of fourth place South Alabama (+35).
