
JONESBORO, Ark. (4/7/22) – For the second year in a row, the Arkansas State track and field teams are set to compete in the northwest corner of the state at the John McDonnell Invitational.
Hosted at John McDonnell Field in Fayetteville, Ark., the meet begins at 3:30 p.m. Thursday with the men’s and women’s hammer throw before an action-packed day on Friday. Competition on Friday begins at 10:30 a.m. with the women’s discus throw, while the latter portion of the day will be broadcast live on SEC Network+, beginning at 3:30 p.m. with the men’s 3000m steeplechase.

3 THINGS TO NOTE:
1. BACK IN NWA: Arkansas State is set to compete in the John McDonnell Invitational for the second year in a row. Last season’s edition saw multiple distance records broke, including Bennett Pascoe obliterating the school record in the steeplechase.
2. RANKED FOES: This week’s meet features a handful of athletes from teams ranked in the USTFCCCA’s top 25, including a pair of top-10 foes on the women’s side in fifth-ranked Arkansas and No. 10 BYU. On the men’s side, BYU is the highest-ranked team in the field at 13th, while Arkansas is 23rd this week and Oklahoma State comes in at No. 25.
3. #EVENTSQUAD: Arkansas State’s women are all over the USTFCCCA’s first #EventSquad rankings of the outdoor season, coming in at 10th nationally in the discus throw with an average of 47.54m (156-0.0). The Red Wolves are 16th in both the 100m hurdles (14.18) and shot put (14.07m/46-2.0), while ranking 26th in the high jump (1.62m/5-3.75).
