CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (3/2/24) – The Arkansas State women’s tennis team outlasted Bradley in a 4-2 victory Saturday afternoon at John C. Bierk Redhawks Tennis Complex.
“We embraced another morning of growth and competitiveness,” said Sarah Millard. “After clinching the doubles point, we were able to carry our momentum into singles. While we enjoy this win, we are preparing to bring it all back out to the courts tomorrow. I feel so blessed to be part of a team that strives for excellence in everything they do with an untouched vibrant camaraderie.”
A-State (5-4) earned the doubles point for an early advantage and went on to win at No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 singles to clinch the victory. At No. 1 doubles, Yasmine Humbert and Millard teamed up for a 6-3 victory and Nejla Zukic and Ariadna Fernandez clinched the point with a 6-2 triumph on court three. Anna Grigroreva and Abigail Thurmer faced a 5-3 deficit on court two when the doubles point was clinched.
Bradley (4-7) evened the match at 1-1 with Maria Bezmenova topping Humbert 6-4, 6-3 on court one. Coming back from a 5-1 deficit in the first set, Rebecca Brody gave A-State a 2-1 lead with a 7-5, 7-5 win on court five. Bradley once again got even with Emiliya Margolin falling 0-6, 7-5, 6-3 on court six against Madi Rogers. Moments later, Grigoreva completed a comeback with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 win on court two over Anna Belogliadova. Millard clinched the win for the Red Wolves with a 6-4, 7-5 victory against Kirstin Hailey on court three. Fernandez faced a 6-3, 2-6, 5-0 deficit on court four when Millard clinched the win.
