HUMBLE, Texas (3/19/24) – One of six teams to shoot 2-over par or better Tuesday, the Arkansas State men’s golf team climbed four spots to finish tied for 11th in a 19-team field that featured 18 top-150 teams.
A-State, ranked No. 74 in the latest national rankings, carded its best round of the event in the final round at 2-over par 290. Four teams – Texas Tech, Texas State, Houston and Iowa – were under par in the final round while Cincinnati was even-par for the final 18 holes. No. 6 Texas Tech won the tournament at 7-over par 871, two strokes better than No. 98 Sam Houston. Texas State (+10), UNLV (+11), Houston (+12), Kansas (+17), Iowa (+19), Baylor (+20), Iowa State (+23) and Yale (+24) rounded out the top 10.
Thomas Schmidt turned in the low round of the week among A-State golfers at 3-under par, his team-best 13th par or better round this season. With the round, Schmidt climbed 35 spots on the leaderboard to finish tied for 29th at 6-over for the tournament. Jack Maxey carded his 10th par or better round with a final round 2-under par 70 and finished in a tie for 47th. Hugo Ronnberg (+8) tied for 40th, Devyn Pappas (+9) tied for 47th and Anthony De Schutter (+12) rounded out the five Red Wolves in the field.
A-State returns to action next week, March 24-25, at the Seahawk Intercollegiate at the Country Club of Landfall in in Wilmington, N.C.
