Sun Belt Conference
MOBILE, Ala. (5/14/26) – Senior pole vaulter Carly Pujol and junior distance runner Carlo Martinez-Jaramillo took gold in Arkansas State track and field’s opening day of action on Thursday at the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Pujol posted a height of 4.13m (13-6.50) in the women’s pole vault and claimed the top spot on the podium by a margin of 0.10m. The Cape Girardeau native joins Stephanie Foreman (2009-11) and Lauren Beauchamp (2021-22) as the only Red Wolves to win consecutive outdoor conference titles in the women’s pole vault.
She has six event victories in seven tries during the 2026 outdoor season and has surpassed 4.00m (13-1.50) in every appearance.
Martinez-Jaramillo capped the Red Wolves’ day with a first-place finish in the men’s 10,000 meters. The 2025 Sun Belt Men’s Cross Country Champion crossed the finish line with 30:27.84 on the clock, 8.16 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
He is the third Red Wolf to win a conference title in the 10,000 meters, joining Will Norris (2016) and Jacob Pyeatt (2025).
Colby Eddowes and Kercher Herring hold top five standings halfway through the men’s decathlon. The former ranks third with 4,002 points while the latter holds the fifth spot with 3,675 points. Eddowes won the long jump event with a distance of 7.11m (23-4.00) and recorded second-place finishes in the 100 meters and high jump.
Brett Jacobs, Joe Edwards, Craig Becker and Parker Noffz advanced to the 1500-meter finals scheduled for Wednesday, May 16, at 4:30 p.m. Jacobs clocked in at 3:47.99 to place fifth and Edwards registered a 3:48.26 mark to finish two spots behind while Becker rounded out the top 10 with a 3:48.66 time.
The Arkansas State men’s and women’s squads stand at fifth place in the team standings. The men hold a total of 13 points through three events while the women tally 12 through four.
