JONESBORO, Ark. (9/8/26) – Arkansas State volleyball libero/defensive specialist Mia Maloney earned Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors after a strong performance at the Best Western Invitational on Sept. 4-5.
Maloney averaged 5.31 digs per set and totaled 69 overall to lead the league during the week of Aug. 30-Sept. 5. The Louisville native tallied 25 in a 3-2 win over Bowling Green and 26 in a 3-1 victory against Northern Kentucky on Sept. 4.
Both totals were the second and third-most by a Sun Belt player during the week.
She ended the weekend with 18 digs in another 3-1 win against American and secured Best Western Invitational All-Tournament and MVP recognition. Through six games, Maloney ranks fourth in the conference for digs per set and fifth for total digs.
Next Up
A-State travels to Columbia, Missouri, to compete in the Mizzou Tournament on Sept. 11-12 inside the Hearnes Center. The Red Wolves will open against Missouri on Sept. 11 at 6 p.m., and follow with a doubleheader against Wichita State and FGCU on Sept. 12.
The match against the Shockers will begin at 10 a.m. while the contest versus the Eagles is slated for 6 p.m.
The Scarlet & Black’s first home matchup is slated for Sept. 18 versus Arkansas. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. inside First National Bank Arena, and tickets can be purchased by clicking here.
