HARRISONBURG, Va. (5/9/25) – Bradley Jelmert won his fourth career conference title in the men’s pole vault on Friday at Sentara Park, taking gold to highlight Day 2 of the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships for Arkansas State track and field.
Jelmert’s effort spearheaded a 15-point output in the event for the Red Wolves’ men’s team, which sits in first with 57 points entering Saturday’s final day. On the women’s side, A-State sits in third with 50 points and the top three teams separated by 10 points or less.
Behind Jelmert, John Carswell scored five points with a fourth-place, career-best height of 5.28m (17-3.75). Gavin Schaer (5.08m/16-8) and Jacob Dorrell (4.93m/16-2) also recorded collegiate-best marks, placing ninth and 10th.
Miranda Burgett took silver in the heptathlon with a career-best total of 5,135 points, while Isabel Daines finished fourth with 4,957 points, to give the A-State women’s team 13 points in the event.
Michelle Ogbemudia earned a silver medal in the women’s shot put, throwing 16.21m (53-2.25). Liya Guy finished 14th with a toss of 12.02m (39-5.25).
In the men’s shot put, Menachem Chen secured bronze with a throw of 17.39m (57-0.75) while Chris Boyd was sixth, tossing the implement 17.18m (56-4.5).
A-State scored eight points in the women’s steeplechase to end the night, as Devyn O’Daniel and Lizzee Winkler clocked career-best times. O’Daniel was fourth, running 10:59.11, while Winkler moved to ninth in school history with her sixth-place time of 11:07.12.
Evan Stevens tallied four points for the men’s squad in the steeplechase, running 9:07.54 in his fifth-place finish.
In the men’s long jump, Colby Eddowes placed fourth with a season-best jump of 7.67m (25-2), while Matthew Williams was 15th, jumping 7.03m (23-0.75).
Alden Wetzel finished the decathlon with a score of 6,556 points, placing sixth to earn three points.
Nyima Williamson scored a point in the women’s long jump, matching her career best with a mark of 5.91m (19-4.75). Madison Holloway (5.71m/18-8.75) and Kiara Strayhorn (5.61m/18-5) placed 10th and 13th, while Brandi Echols (5.49m/18-0.25) placed 19th.
Eddowes later tied the meet-record by running 13.45 in the 110-meter hurdles prelims. Josh Jones (14.18) and Kenyon Parker (14.38) both qualified on time to join him in Saturday’s final.
Tyra Nabors qualified for Saturday’s 100-meter hurdles final, running 13.80 to qualify on time.
Three Red Wolves advanced to Saturday’s men’s 800-meter final, led by Brandon Williams, who ran a career-best 1:50.57 to lead all runners. Kamil Przybyla ran 1:51.54 to win his heat while Brett Jacobs advanced as a time qualifier with a time of 1:52.76. Abbey Coberly was 15th in the women’s 800-meter qualifying, running 2:17.94.
Camren Bailey moved on to Saturday’s men’s 100-meter final after placing fifth with a time of 10.43. Javarian Otey (10.61) placed 15th and Christopher Burge (10.86) was 24th. Reneisha Andrews ran a season-best 11.82 to finish 19th in women’s 100-meter preliminary action, and AJ Allen clocked a career-best 12.28 to place 31st.
In the women’s 400 meters, Jada Buggs finished just outside qualifying range, finishing 11th with a time of 57.12. Je’Breiya Chapman was 13th with a career-best 57.45, and Kneila Watson was 20th (58.52). In the men’s prelims, Mehki Hoo was 30th, crossing in 51.07.
Competition resumes Saturday at 11 a.m. CT with the men’s triple jump. ESPN+ will begin its broadcast at 3 p.m. as track action commences.
