HARRISONBURG, Va. (5/8/25) – A trio of Arkansas State track and field athletes topped the podium on Thursday to open the 2025 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships at Sentara Park.
A-State ended the first day of the three-day event in second on the men’s side with 21 points, while the women’s squad enters Day 2 in fourth with 20 points.
Noa Isaia won the Red Wolves’ first gold of the day, winning the men’s hammer throw with a toss of 65.66m (215-5) – over 14 feet better than the runner-up.
Carly Pujol captured gold in the women’s pole vault, breaking her own school record with a height of 4.31m (14-1.75) to complete the conference indoor/outdoor sweep. KG Ryan was 10th (3.66m/12-0) and Kaci Andrus tied for 14th (3.51m/11-6.25).
To end the night, Jacob Pyeatt captured gold in the men’s 10,000 meters with a time of 29:54.18. Nati Enright added a point with his eighth-place mark of 30:38.54.
Michelle Ogbemudia scored four points for the women’s team, placing fifth in the hammer throw with a career-best throw of 56.45m (185-2).
Olivia Walter added four more points at the end of the day in the women’s 10,000 meters, finishing in 35:31.36. Delaney Mulick was ninth but clocked a time of 36:23.93 that moved her to eighth in school history in the event.
Miranda Burgett topped the heptathlon leaderboard after the first four events, totaling 3,231 points, while Isabel Daines ended the day in fourth (2,942). Burgett recorded career-best marks in the shot put (12.29m/680 points) and 200 meters (25.35) as well as season bests in the 100-meter hurdles (14.82/866 points) and high jump (1.68m/830 points). Daines was second in the 100-meter hurdles (14.52/906 points) and high jump (1.62m/759 points), posting a season-best clearance in the latter.
In the first day of the decathlon, Alden Wetzel completed the first five events in sixth place with 3,524 points. Wetzel’s day was highlighted by a career-best throw in the shot put, as he won the portion with a throw of 13.08m (42-11).
Daines competed in the women’s javelin, placing seventh to score two points with a throw of 41.08m (134-9). In the men’s javelin, John Harrick threw a collegiate-best 53.84m (176-8) to place 11th.
A-State had four runners advance to Saturday’s men’s 1500-meter final, paced by Kamil Przybyla’s top time of 3:51.87. Brett Jacobs qualified with a time of 3:52.62, while Avinash Patel (10th, 3:53.70) and Aviel Gasko (11th, 3:54.23) each qualified on time. Gabe Falting finished just outside of the qualifying mark, placing 14th with a collegiate-best time of 3:55.71.
Sammy Mason advanced in the women’s 1500-meter prelims, finishing third in her heat with a time of 4:34.31. Abbey Coberly (4:39.56) and Malena Cybak (4:40.75) were 13th and 14th in the event.
Both Kenyon Parker and Josh Jones moved on to the men’s 400-meter hurdles final, finishing sixth and seventh with times of 52.45 and 52.87, respectively, with Parker recording a career best.
Camren Bailey finished 12th in the men’s 200 meters prelims, running 21.149, while Javarian Otey was 28th with a time of 21.82.
Competition resumes Friday at 9:30 a.m. CT with the second day of the decathlon. ESPN+ will begin broadcasting track events at 4 p.m.
