BOSTON/NASHVILLE, Tenn. (2/7/24) – Arkansas State track and field’s Hannes Fahl and Jacob Pyeatt broke program records in the mile and 5000 meters, respectively, on Saturday, highlighting several standout performances in a pair of meets.
Fahl clocked a Sun Belt Conference-record time of 4:02.70 in his record performance at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, ahead of Lasse Funck’s time of 4:05.26 which stands third in program history.
Also in the mile, Jacob Lawrence and Noah McMurtrey clocked personal-best marks of 4:13.49 and 4:14.49.
Pyeatt capped the record-setting day by breaking his own school record in the men’s 5000 meters, running a time of 14:06.64
A-State’s women’s DMR quartet of Rahel Broemmel, Emma Guadagnoli, Cheyenne Melvin and Elizabeth Martin combined for a time of 11:42.45 – a time that stands second in school history.
In the men’s 3000 meters, Cash Kunkel ran a time of 8:14.39, while Rylan Brown clocked a season-best 8:30.23.
Dawson Mayberry finished the men’s 5000 meters in 14:24.18.
At the Music City Challenge in Nashville, freshmen Kenyon Parker and Josh Jones moved up the program’s top-10 in the 60-meter hurdles. Parker’s third-place time of 7.85 in the final ranks third in school history, while Josh Jones’ fifth-place result of 7.99 stands eighth.
In the women’s 60-meter hurdles, Tyra Nabors matched her season-best with a fourth-place finish in 8.49. Alexis Taylor advanced through the qualifying heats in the women’s 60-meter hurdles into the prelims with a time of 9.03.
Menachem Chen uncorked a career-best throw of 15.93m (52-3.25) to place 10th in the men’s shot put, ahead of Chris Boyd (11th – 15.79m/51-9.75) and Noa Isaia (13th – 15.32m/50-3.25). Selase Sampram placed seventh in the women’s shot put with a toss of 15.16m (49-9) and Nyluet Diew was 12th with a mark of 14.42m (47-3.75).
Handre Jonker ran a time of 50.17 in the men’s 400 meters, while Jeremiah Green ran a collegiate-best 50.18. Hanyla Milligan (1:01.90) and Je’Breiya Chapman (1:01.92) finished 40th and 41st in the women’s 400.
Freshman Abbey Coberly clocked a collegiate-best 2:19.62 in the women’s 800 meters, with the men’s race seeing Ryan Parson (1:57.68), Benny Brenneman (1:59.73) and Andrew Mason (1:59.91) circling the track.
Coleman Wilson ran a season-best 8:40.14 in the men’s 3000 meters, while Anna Hunter and Maggie Hunter recorded times of 10:34.41 and 10:54.51 in the women’s event.
Also on the track, AJ Allen competed in women’s 60 meters qualifying, notching a time of 7.99. Spencer Taylor (7.10), CJ Burge (7.25) and Matthew Williams (7.29) all competed in the men’s 60 meters qualifying heats.
