MONROE, La. (5/9/24) – Bella Coscetti completed the women’s pole vault sweep on Thursday to highlight an abbreviated opening day of competition at the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Coscetti put the Arkansas State women’s team on the board by clearing a facility-record 3.97m (13-0.25) – matching her career best – before severe weather in the area forced the rest of the evening’s events to be postponed. An updated schedule will be available on SunBeltSports.org.

The sophomore was not the only facility record breaker on Thursday, as Rahel Broemmel clocked a track-best time of 4:33.91 to lead the way in the women’s 1500-meter prelims. She and Elizabeth Martin – who finished second with a time of 4:35.64 – advance to Saturday’s final.

Through the first of two days in the decathlon, Colby Eddowes tops the standings with 4,043 points after earning the top marks in four of the day’s five events contested.

Prior to the stoppage, Izzy Daines added four points to the women’s team’s tally with a fifth-place mark of 42.34m (138-11) in the women’s javelin. Daines also sits eighth after the first day of the heptathlon, totaling 2,936 points on Thursday.

In the men’s 1500-meter prelims, Hannes Fahl finished with the top time in the field, crossing the line in 3:54.82 to advance to Saturday’s finale. Ryan Parson finished 14th with a time of 3:59.41 and Benny Brenneman was 22nd (4:10.93).

Noa Isaia scored the men’s team its first points of the championships, placing fifth in the men’s hammer throw with a mark of 56.24m (184-6) for four points. Chris Boyd (46.81m/153-7) and Menachem Chen (46.12m/151-4) placed 14th and 15th, respectively.

Michelle Ogbemudia threw the hammer 51.89m (170-3) to place 12th in the women’s final.

Kaci Andrus placed 12th in the women’s pole vault with a clearance of 3.57m (11-8.5), while Madison Holloway was 15th in the women’s javelin, tossing the implement 32.22m (109-0).

Competition resumes at 8 a.m. Friday with events postponed from Thursday, starting with the women’s 10,000 meters.
