Buchanan Tops Individual Standings; Red Wolves Second Heading into Final Day of Music City Classic

SMYRNA, Tenn. (3/19/22) – Brooklyn Buchanan averaged 245.80 in traditional matches to lead the individual standings and the Arkansas State women’s bowling team went 4-0 to rank second among 33 teams at the Music City Classic heading into the final day of competition at the Smyrna Bowling Center.
 
A-State (67-31) climbed from fourth to second in total pinfall with 5,343 pins in traditional play for a total of 10,453 (209.1) after two days. The Red Wolves meet McKendree (10,705) to begin bracket play Sunday with host Vanderbilt third (10,444) and Stephen F. Austin (10,356) fourth.
 
The Red Wolves opened the day with a 1,046-982 margin over Stephen F. Austin and followed with a 1,083-996 win over Lincoln Memorial. A-State added wins over Spalding (1,044-749) and Maryland-Eastern Shore (1,141-1,056) before closing out the day with a bye and a total of 1,029. The total of 1,141 against UMES ranks fourth among the best of the season by A-State while the 1,083 pinfall against LMU ranks seventh.
 
Buchanan rolled over 220 pins in each of the five games totaling 1,229 pins for an average of 245.8, 65 pins better than the next closest player in the more than 200 that bowled. Buchanan downed a season-best among all A-State bowlers of 279 against Lincoln Memorial and put down 256 pins against UMES. She had games of 236 against Stephen F. Austin and the last game of the day along with a 222 against Spalding.
 
Faith Welch and Emma Stull ranked 18th and 19th, respectively, in the individual standings. Welch downed 1,070 pins, an average of 214.00 while Stull rolled 1,068 for an average of 213.60. Stull had three games above 200, including a high of 257 against UMES. Welch was over 200 in four of five games with a high of 235 in the finale.
