    JONESBORO, Ark. (3/1/24) – Arkansas State women’s basketball (13-16, 6-12 SBC) fell short against Appalachian State (16-14, 9-9 SBC) by a score of 64-57 on Friday night at First National Bank Arena.
     
    Wynter Rogers led the team in points and rebounds, scoring a career-high 15 points while matching another career high with 14 boards. It is her second-straight double-double and the third by a Red Wolf this season.
     
    As a team, the Red Wolves shot 24-for-49 (49 percent) from the field and 2-for-8 (25 percent) from 3-point range. On the flip side, Appalachian State shot 24-for-62 (39 percent) from the field and 6-for-29 (21 percent) from beyond the arc.
     
    The Scarlet and Black out-rebounded their opponent 41-27, holding them to less than 20 defensive rebounds.
     
    A-State traded blows with the Mountaineers throughout the first quarter, eventually coming out with a 17-13 advantage. Rogers scored the first seven points for the Red Wolves while the team finished 8-for-11 (72 percent) from the field in the quarter.
     
    Appalachian State responded with a strong defensive effort in the second, holding the Scarlet and Black to nine points. The Mountaineers outscored A-State by seven to take a 29-26 lead into the break.
     
    The Red Wolves finished the first half with 15 turnovers, which is the most in a half this season.
     
    The deficit swelled to eight points in the third before the Red Wolves rallied with a 10-0 run to take a 43-40 lead. However, the Mountaineers were able to snap the scoreless stretch and take a 44-43 advantage into the final quarter.
     
    Appalachian State opened the fourth quarter with a 9-0 run that extended the deficit to double-digits. The Scarlet and Black were unable to rally as they fell in the regular season finale.
     
    A-State finished with 23 turnovers in the contest, which is the second-most in a game this season.

    Arkansas State travels to Pensacola, Florida for a matchup against Louisiana in the second round of the Sun Belt Tournament. The matchup is scheduled for Wednesday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN+.
