AZUSA, Calif./LONG BEACH, Calif./LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (4/13/24) – A pair of Arkansas State track and field athletes moved into the all-time top-10 on Saturday at the Beach Invitational.
Menachem Chen moved up to eighth in program history in the men’s discus throw, uncorking a toss of 55.31m (181-5). Noa Isaia threw the implement 51.80m (169-11) while Willem Coertzen recorded a season-best mark of 51.10m (167-8).
Bella Coscetti cleared a career-best 3.91m (12-10) in an 11th-place finish, which tied for 10th in school history. Trace South competed on the men’s side, tying for fourth with a height of 4.86m (15-11.25).
Josh Jones (5th, 14.21w) and Kenyon Parker (8th, 14.30w) earned top-10 finishes in the 110-meter hurdles at the Beach Invitational, while Alden Wetzel ran a wind-aided time of 15.19 to place 21st. Jones also placed fifth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 53.65. Parker was 18th, finishing the distance in 56.74.
Coertzen led four throwers in the men’s shot put, placing 10th with a throw of 17.60m (57-9). Chen hurled the implement 16.14m (52-11.5) and Chris Boyd recorded a mark of 15.63m (51-3.5), while Isaia registered a throw of 13.62m (44-8.25).
In the women’s discus, Selase Sampram threw 47.16m (154-8) and Liya Guy had a top mark of 44.38m (145-7). Nyaluet Diew also competed, recording a toss of 39.30m (128-11). Diew was also 10th in the women’s shot put (14.79m/48-6.25) and Sampram was 11th (14.66m/48-1.25).
Alden Wetzel placed 20th in the men’s 400 meters in Long Beach (49.12), with Mehki Hoo crossing in 50.36, while Reneisha Andrews ran the 100 meters in 12.01 to place 24th. Spencer Taylor clocked a wind-aided mark of 22.09 in the men’s 200 meters.
In the men’s long jump, Amarrion Reese jumped 6.72m (22-0.75) in a 46th-place finish.
At the Bryan Clay Invitational, Cadence Lapp ran a personal-best 4:41.48 in section C of the women’s 1500 meters, placing 32nd. Rahel Broemmel raced in the invite section, finishing in 4:20.53.
Competition in Azusa continued as of 11 p.m. CT, with results to be published online after conclusion.
Also on Saturday, several athletes competed in the capital city at a windy Little Rock Invitational.
Matthew Williams placed fourth in the men’s long jump with a wind-aided mark of 6.97m (22-10.5), and later jumped a season-best 13.61m (44-7.75) to place third in the triple jump. Madison Holloway finished sixth in the women’s event, leaping 5.63mw (18-5.75).
Freshman Je’Breiya Chapman ran a collegiate-best 1:00.84 in a seventh-place finish in the women’s 400 meters, while Jeremiah Green ran 49.66 to place sixth in the men’s race. Chapman finished the 200 meters in 25.98, behind Hanyla Milligan’s 15th-place time of 25.10w.
CJ Burge clocked a wind-aided time of 10.69 in a sixth-place result in the men’s 100 meters before finishing the 200 meters in 22.23.
