    AUSTIN, Texas/SAN MARCOS, Texas (3/28/24) – Arkansas State track and field opened a packed weekend of competition on Thursday, competing deep in the heart of Texas at the Bobcat Invitational and Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.

    Kenyon Parker was A-State’s lone competitor in Austin on the day, running the men’s 400-meter hurdles at the Texas Relays. The freshman placed sixth in the field with a time of 53.22 in his collegiate outdoor debut.

    At the Bobcat Invitational, John Carswell finished tied atop the leaderboard in the men’s pole vault, clearing a collegiate-best (indoor and outdoor combined) 5.02m (16-5.5). Trace South vaulted 4.87m (15-11.75) to finish tied for fourth. Bella Coscetti tied for seventh in the women’s pole vault, clearing a season-best 3.73m (12-2.75) while Kaci Andrus tied for 17th with a mark of 3.43m (11-3.0).

    In section B of the men’s discus throw, Chris Boyd and Willem Coertzen earned top-5 finishes. Boyd placed second with a throw of 52.38m (171-10) while Coertzen was fourth with a season-best toss of 49.98m (163-11). Noa Isaia was 10th in Section A with a throw of 53.00m (173-10) and Menachem Chen placed 11th, hurling a personal-best 52.20m (171-3).

    Selase Sampram placed 10th in section A of the women’s discus, uncorking a season-best throw of 46.58m (152-10). In section B, Liya Guy was fifth with a personal-best mark of 43.32m (142-1) and Michelle Ogbemudia threw the implement a season-best 41.78m (137-1) to place ninth. Nyaluet Diew finished 14th in the section with a throw of 39.87m (130-9).

    Alden Wetzel began his first collegiate decathlon on Thursday, ending the first day in ninth place with 3,560 points through five events. He concluded the day by taking the top spot in the 400 meters portion with a time of 49.06, while opening the day with the second-fastest 100-meter time (10.96) among the competitors.

    In the women’s long jump, Miranda Burgett jumped 5.37m (17-7.5) to place 22nd.

    NEXT UP

    A-State continues action in Texas on Friday, while also competing in the first of two days at the UAB Spring Invite in Birmingham, Ala.
