JONESBORO, Ark. (2/24/24) – The Lindenwood Lions (1-5, 0-0 OVC) made a furious comeback bid in the ninth, but Arkansas State baseball (7-0, 0-0 SBC) was able to escape with a 7-6 victory on Saturday night at Tomlinson Stadium.

Arlon Butts (1-0) made his second start of the season and allowed two hits with one earned run while striking out four over five innings pitched. Austen Jaslove led the bats with a 2-for-5 performance that featured two home runs and five RBIs.

Jaslove opened the action with a two-run home run in the second inning, putting A-State ahead 2-0. It was the Infielder’s 14th hit and fourth home run of the season.

Kam Edwards led off the fourth with a triple and crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly to put Lindenwood on the board. The Lions were unable to get another runner on base as the Scarlet and Black held a one-run advantage.

Cason Tollett extended the lead back to two runs with a 401-foot solo-homer while Cross Jumper fired a line drive into centerfield for another not long after.

Jaslove blew the game open in the eighth with his second home run of the game, bringing in three runs on a 393-foot missile over the left-field wall.

Lindenwood scored three runs with no outs before the Red Wolves forced a 6-4-3 double play, but Dawson Hokuf fired a two-run homer to right field in the next at-bat to make it a one-run contest. However, A-State forced a fly-out to right field and secured the victory.

Butts earned the win and Jacob Conover claimed the save while Eli Brown (0-1) took the loss. The Red Wolves have won back-to-back series to open the season for the first time since 2019.
