COLUMBIA, Mo. (9/12/26) – Arkansas State volleyball (4-5, 0-0 SBC) defeated Wichita State (3-5, 0-0 American) in a 3-1 (25-19, 24-26, 25-18, 25-22) decision before falling to FGCU (3-4, 0-0 ASUN) by a score of 0-3 (21-25, 25-27, 20-25) in a doubleheader on Saturday inside the Hearnes Center.
 
Against the Shockers, Devyn Lewis led the team with 15 kills while Addison Collum (14) and Kaitlin Whitlock (12) also reached double figures. Mia Maloney set a career high with 28 digs and Haley Glunz added nine total blocks. As a team A-State tallied 65 kills on a .278 attack percentage and posted 66 digs alongside 11 total blocks.
 
Collum was also effective from the service line, as she posted a career-best three service aces in the match.
 
Whitlock recorded a team-high eight kills against FGCU while Glunz led the team with two service aces and tied with Lewis at four total blocks. Erin Madigan led the team with 17 assists and eight digs. The Scarlet & Black ended the match with 32 kills on a .182 clip and added 31 digs plus 8 total blocks.
 
Match 1, Set 1
Lewis landed four kills on a perfect 1.000 attack percentage and recorded a service ace to help the Red Wolves secure the opening set. She, along with Collum and Glunz, helped cap a 6-0 run with three consecutive kills and created a 21-15 advantage. The Shockers narrowed the gap after taking three of the next four rallies, but Kaitlin Whitlock recorded two kills and a block assist to shut the door on a comeback and secure a 25-19 set victory.
 
Match 1, Set 2
A 5-0 run pushed Wichita State ahead 9-7 early, but a kill from Parker Stearns plus two more for Whitlock tied the set four rallies later. Both sides traded points until Collum powered A-State to a 5-0 run with three kills and a block assist. The stretch resulted in a 17-13 lead that the Red Wolves took into the 41st rally, but a 6-0 run forced a lead change and put A-State behind 24-23.
 
Whitlock tied the set with a kill, but the Shockers responded with two more to tie the match in extra points.
 
Match 1, Set 3
The Scarlet & Black claimed eight of the first 12 rallies and did not look back for the remainder of the set. Calea Bush posted her sixth kill of the match to cap a 3-0 run and made the score 19-12. The lead maxed out at 22-14 and an exchange of points ensued before Bush delivered her seventh kill to end the set in a 25-18 decision.   
 
Match 1, Set 4
The Shockers put together a dominant effort for a majority of the set, starting with an early 12-5 lead. A-State’s deficit reached nine points before a service error by the opposition sparked an overwhelming rally. Glunz recorded two kills and a pair of block assists alongside Collum as the deficit closed to four.
 
Back-to-back kills for Wichita State stalled the effort, but it would not last long as another 5-0 run made the score 20-19. Collum and Lewis countered a block with two kills to tie the set and the latter added another to create a 23-21 advantage. Only one more rally would be surrendered beyond that point as Lewis secured the match with back-to-back kills.
 
Match 2, Set 1
A solo block by Lewis was followed by a kill from Glunz and a service ace by Maloney to give A-State a 14-10 advantage. The opposition countered with a surge over the next 12 rallies and eventually took a two-point lead. A service error plus a kill by Bush tied the set at 19-19, but the Red Wolves could only take two rallies beyond that point as the Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the match.
 
Match 2, Set 2
A-State held multiple three-point leads early in the set and took a 15-12 lead into the technical timeout after a kill from Lewis. Six of the next seven rallies fell into the opponents’ favor, but the Red Wolves regained the lead on a 4-1 run highlighted by a solo block and kill from Madigan. Both sides exchanged three consecutive rallies after FGCU tied the contest at 23-23, and the Eagles eventually posted another 3-0 stretch to secure the set in a 27-25 decision.
 
Match 2, Set 3
Neither side could gain the upper hand early in the set as both sides evenly split the first 30 rallies. Whitlock landed a kill and snapped a 3-0 run for the opposition while another from Glunz plus a service error tied the set at 18-18. FGCU opened a 22-19 lead, and following a kill by Madigan, added three more points to secure the set and the match.
