AUSTIN, Texas (5/13/24) – Tying the program-best mark for an NCAA Championship round, the Arkansas State men’s golf team stands seventh among 13 teams at the NCAA Austin Regional following an opening round 3-over par 287 at the University of Texas Golf Club.

Waiting out a lengthy weather delay midway through the opening round, the Red Wolves finished the day third in the field dropping 19 birdies. A-State’s 3-over par 287 on the par-71, 7,399-yard course ties the 287 (-1) in the final round of the 2021 NCAA Noblesville Regional as the program’s best for the team in any NCAA Championship round.

Host Texas leads the field at 11-under par 273 followed by Notre Dame (-9), Tennessee (-8), BYU (-5), Georgia (E) and Utah (+1) for the top six. UNC Greensboro (+4) is eighth followed by Arkansas (+5), Wake Forest (+5), Kansas City (+10), Grand Canyon (+11) and San Jose State (+14). The top five teams after 54 holes advance to the NCAA Championship May 24-29 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.

Hugo Ronnberg paced A-State individually with a 1-under par 70 to tie for 18th among the 77 players, three strokes back of the individual lead. Thomas Schmidt is among 31 players at even-par or better as he posted an opening round 71 to tie for 26th. Devyn Pappas led the field with seven birdies Monday and completed the round at 1-over par 72 to tie for 32nd. Jack Maxey (+3) and Jake Lile (+3) are tied for 49th.

The top individual, not among the top five team finishers, advances to the NCAA Championship.
