LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (4/29/25) – Arkansas State baseball (23-21, 11-10 SBC) overcame an early three-run deficit en route to a 7-4 victory over Little Rock (18-26, 7-10 OVC) in 10 innings on Tuesday night at Gary Hogan Field.

Collin Maloney made his ninth start of the season, surrendering four runs (three earned) on six hits over 2.1 innings pitched. Seven Red Wolves entered in relief, limiting the Trojans to four hits and two walks while striking out 11 over the final 7.2 innings of action.

At the plate, Wil French (2-for-4) and Jeremiah Cabuyaban (2-for-4) led the team in hits while the former scored a team-high two runs. Jake Henry Williams and Patrick Engskov led the Scarlet and Black in RBIs, evenly splitting four of five in the contest.

After leading off with a groundout, French and Cross Jumper recorded back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners. A wild pitch allowed French to cross the plate for the 171st time in his career and made the score 1-0.

A quiet second inning gave way to a busy third, as the Trojans put up four runs to claim a 4-1 advantage in the bottom frame. The Red Wolves surrendered a solo and two-run homer, while another run reached on a sacrifice fly.

Williams put the Scarlet and Black back in the game with a two-run homer to centerfield, cutting the deficit to one. It is the left fielder’s third home run in three games and his seventh on the season.

Five scoreless frames would pass before action would pick up in the top of the eighth. Ashton Quiller reached on a hit-by-pitch and French followed on a walk before Jumper advanced the former to third on a sacrifice fly.

Engskov hit a grounder to third base, but a fielding error allowed the shortstop to reach while Quiller scored uncontested, tying the game at 4-4. Neither side scored before the end of the ninth, triggering extra innings.

After leading off with an out, A-State put two runners in scoring position before Engskov fired a grounder through the left side for a go-ahead single. An error allowed Cason Campbell to reach first on a sacrifice bunt, while Jumper reached home to make the score 7-4.

Engskov crossed the plate on a passed ball to cap the top frame, and Little Rock was unable to respond as A-State claimed the lone matchup between the programs. Kole Turner (2-5) earned the win and Cooper Garrison (2) claimed the save while Hunter Royal took the loss.

French scored one more run in the contest to tie Drew Tipton (2017-21) for second place in program history with 172 runs scored. The senior needs two more to break the program record set by Todd Baumgartner (2008-11) 14 years ago.
