JONESBORO, Ark. (5/10/25) – Arkansas State baseball (23-26, 11-15 SBC) held the lead late, but could not overcome a late rally from Troy (37-15, 18-8 SBC) in an 8-7 defeat on Saturday night at Tomlinson Stadium-Slayton Family Field.

Tyler Weimer made his fourth career start, surrendering three runs (all earned) on four hits over 2.1 innings pitched. Wil French led the bats with a 3-for-4 performance while Jake Henry Williams recorded a team-high three RBIs.

The Trojans jumped out to a 2-0 advantage in the opening frame after sending RBI-singles up the middle and through the right side. French cut the deficit in half with a solo-homer in the next frame, establishing a new program record for career runs scored with his 174th.

Cason Campbell doubled later in the bottom of the first, bringing in Patrick Engskov to tie the ballgame. Cason Tollett pushed A-State in front when he crossed the plate on a fielder’s choice in the second, making the score 3-2.

A solo-home run tied the game in the top of the third, but back-to-back doubles from French and Cross Jumper broke the tie one frame later.

Troy tied the game once again after a runner advanced home on a throw to second base in the fifth. However, two Red Wolves reached before Williams fired a 427-foot missile beyond the left-field wall to give the Scarlet and Black a 7-4 advantage.

A solo-homer cut the lead to two runs in the seventh while a three-run shot pushed Troy ahead by an 8-7 advantage. A-State was unable to tie the contest in the final two innings as the game reached its conclusion.

Jacob Roettgen (2-1) earned the win and Colby Frieda claimed the save while Carson Keithley (1-1) took the loss.
