COLLEGE STATION, Texas (8/30/26) – Arkansas State volleyball (0-3, 0-0 SBC) established momentum late in the match versus Cal Poly (2-1, 0-0 Big West), but it would not be enough in a 3-0 defeat on Sunday afternoon inside Reed Arena.

Kaitlin Whitlock and Devyn Lewis tied for the team lead with nine kills apiece while the former posted a team-high eight digs. Haley Glunz led the way with two blocks and Mia Maloney posted two service aces.

As a team, A-State landed 38 kills on a .150 hitting percentage and recorded 40 digs plus three blocks.

    Set 1
The Mustangs used an 8-1 run to break an early stalemate and took a 15-7 advantage in the opening set. Whitlock landed a kill out of the technical timeout while an attack error followed, but the opposition responded with three consecutive points and pushed the deficit to nine.

The Red Wolves fell behind 20-10 before momentum began to build. Three kills and a block highlighted a 5-2 stretch for A-State, but Cal Poly claimed the final three rallies to end the set at 25-15.

    Set 2
Kills from Whitlock and Calea Bush bookended an attack error by the opposition and tied the set at 9-9. The Red Wolves surrendered 11 of the next 15 sets and faced a 21-13 deficit before Whitlock struck again back-to-back kills.

The Scarlet & Black answered a kill from Cal Poly with a 3-0 run that made the score 22-18. The rally effort would fall short as both sides alternated the final five rallies until the Mustangs secured a 25-20 decision.

    Set 3
Three consecutive rallies in the opposition’s favor were met with a 7-0 run highlighted by three kills from Lewis and a service ace from Maloney. A-State eventually established a 13-6 advantage highlighted by four kills, a service ace by Keira Garinger and a solo block from Whitlock.

Cal Poly took seven of the next 10 rallies and narrowed the advantage to 16-13 before both sides evenly exchanged the next 12. The Red Wolves surrendered a second consecutive rally that cut the lead to 22-20, but Whitlock answered with a kill that pushed the lead back to three.

The advantage would be erased as the Mustangs claimed five consecutive rallies, plus match point, to end the match.
