JONESBORO, Ark. (3/29/24) – Arkansas State baseball (15-14, 2-6 SBC) was shut down on Friday night against Georgia Southern (14-12, 5-3 SBC), falling by a score of 11-0 in seven innings at Tomlinson Stadium.

Jelle van der Lelie (2-3) made his seventh start of the season, surrendering six earned runs on 10 hits while striking out five over 6.1 innings pitched.

Both sides failed to score in the first three innings of play, but the Eagles quickly ended the scoreless stretch in the fourth. Jarrett Brown led off the top frame with the first home run of the series as A-State trailed 1-0.

Georgia Southern extended their advantage to three runs in the next inning when Sam Blancato hit an RBI-single and Brown recorded an RBI-groundout.

The Eagles unloaded in the seventh, beginning with a two-run single from Brown and an RBI-knock from JD Kaiser. Sean White and Jonathan Jaime brought in two more runs before Cade Parker fired a three-run homer over the left field wall, making the score 11-0.

The Red Wolves were unable to score in the bottom frame to prevent the run-rule from going into effect. Thomas Higgins (3-2) earned the win and Mitchell Gross claimed the save while van der Lelie took the loss.
