LAFAYETTE, La. (5/17/25) – Arkansas State baseball (26-27, 14-16 SBC) took a three-run lead into the seventh, but a seven-run frame for Louisiana (26-29, 16-14 SBC) shifted momentum in an 8-6 defeat on Saturday afternoon at Russo Park.
Kole Turner made his fifth start of the season, limiting the Ragin’ Cajuns to one hit while striking out five over 5.1 innings pitched. At the plate, Wil French and Cason Campbell recorded home runs while the latter and Cross Jumper accounted for two RBIs apiece.
French launched his fourth round-tripper of the season in the opening frame to make the score 1-0. The lead remained at one run until Campbell sent a two-run homer to right field in the fourth, giving the Red Wolves a three-run advantage.
The next six frames yielded no runs for either team, but a bases-loaded situation with no outs shifted momentum in the seventh. Louisiana scored seven runs on three singles, a double, and fielder’s choice to create a four-run deficit in the bottom frame.
Another double scored a run in the bottom of the eighth, but the Scarlet and Black put three runs on the board in the top of the ninth. The rally would fall short, resulting in a two-run defeat for A-State.
Matthew Holzhammer (2-4) earned the win and Dylan Theut (2) claimed the save while Chase Richter (3-4) took the loss.
