CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (3/3/24) – Closing out a pair of weekend matches, the Arkansas State women’s tennis team came up short 4-2 Sunday afternoon at the John C. Bierk Redhawks Tennis Complex.
A-State (5-5) dropped the doubles point and Southeast Missouri (5-6) picked up singles wins on courts three, five and six to clinch the win. A-State’s pair of Yasmine Humbert and Sarah Millard were tied 6-6 on court one, but SEMO earned the doubles tally with a 6-4 win on court two and a 6-0 win on court three.
Humbert cruised to a 6-2, 6-4 victory on court one over Daniela Hlacikova to even the score at 1-1. Rebecca Brody was dealt a 6-1, 7-5 setback by Lera Valeeva on court six as the Redhawks grabbed a 2-1 lead. Anna Grigoreva evened the score with a 6-4, 7-5 win on court two against Calinescu, but SEMO closed out the match with Juliette Talieu defeating Nejla Zukic 6-4, 6-1 on court three and Maja Bajorek topping Ariadna Fernandez 6-4, 7-5 on court five.
A-State begins Sun Belt Conference play Saturday, March 9, at South Alabama.
