LAFAYETTE, La. (5/15/25) – Arkansas State baseball (25-26, 13-15 SBC) earned its fourth shutout victory of the season against Louisiana (25-28, 15-13 SBC), clinching the program’s first Sun Belt Conference Tournament appearance since 2021 on Thursday night at Russo Park.
Gavin Galy (3-1) made his seventh start of the season, limiting the Ragin’ Cajuns to two hits while striking out three over 6.0 scoreless innings pitched. Jack Nelson and Chase Richter (8) entered in relief, combining for two hits allowed and one strikeout over the final 3.0 innings of play.
Ashton Quiller led the bats with a 3-for-5 performance highlighted by a two-run home run in the fifth inning. Jake Henry Williams (2-for-4) and Cason Tollett (2-for-4) posted multi-hit performances as well, while Patrick Engskov accounted for the remaining run with a solo-homer in the fourth.
The Red Wolves did not allow a hit until the fourth inning, and retired Louisiana batters in order four times. The Ragin’ Cajuns put multiple runners on base in the eighth and ninth innings, but the Scarlet and Black thwarted both threats.
A-State shut out Louisiana for the first time since a 3-0 victory on May 27, 2011, in Monroe. The Red Wolves’ last shutout win in Lafayette occurred in a 3-0 decision on March 8, 2008.
Galy earned the win and Richter claimed the save while Chase Morgan (4-3) took the loss.
