JONESBORO, Ark. (10/3/25) – Arkansas State volleyball (10-5, 2-1 SBC) faced an early setback against Southern Miss (10-4, 2-1 SBC) before claiming three consecutive sets and a 3-1 (21-25, 25-22, 25-18, 26-24) victory on Friday night at First National Bank Arena.

Addison Collum led the Red Wolves with 15 kills while Daedrianna Cail posted 11 alongside nine blocks. Kaitlin Whitlock fell one kill short of a double-double, but surpassed 900 career digs with a career-high 24 in the contest.

As a team, A-State recorded 57 kills and a service ace on a .180 percentage while tallying 93 digs and 14 blocks defensively. The Golden Eagles were limited to 42 kills on 178 total attacks, resulting in a .056 percentage.

The Scarlet and Black evenly split the first 18 rallies with the opposition, but the latter claimed five of the next seven to open a three-point advantage. A kill from Collum paired with a service ace from Mia Maloney tied the matchup at 16-16 while kills from Devyn Lewis and Haley Glunz erased a Southern Miss response and gave A-State the lead.

Momentum shifted away from the Red Wolves as the team surrendered a 6-0 scoring run before dropping three of the final seven rallies to conclude the set.

The Golden Eagles opened a five-point lead and triggered an A-State timeout early in the second set, but a service error paired with a kill from Cail sparked an offensive surge that closed the gap to 16-15. Facing a three-point deficit after the next eight rallies, Collum landed a kill that was followed by three consecutive blocks as the Red Wolves regained the advantage.

Two of the next three kills fell in the Scarlet and Black’s favor before Cail evened the match with one more.

Momentum carried into the next set as Lewis highlighted a 10-3 run with three kills and a block assist. The lead peaked at 10 points before Southern Miss attempted to chip away at the deficit, closing the gap to six before Cail ended another set with a kill, securing a 25-18 decision.

The opposition mounted an offensive surge in the fourth set, using a 5-0 run to claim a 14-8 advantage. A-State battled back by claiming nine of the next 12 rallies to force a 17-17 tie, but the Golden Eagles won two of the next three to keep hopes of a fifth set alive.

Both sides traded 3-0 scoring runs and split the next two rallies before kills from Lewis and Collum pushed the Red Wolves ahead 24-23. The set would be tied before a service error and a kill from Payton Van Veen ended the match in extra points.
