    HENDERSON, Nev. (2/26/24) – Beginning its spring slate, the Arkansas State men’s golf team is tied for 11th among 22 teams playing in the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate played at Reflection Bay.

    The Red Wolves started quick sitting at 14-under par with four holes to play, but went a combined 13-over par down the stretch to finish the opening round at 1-under par 287. Going under par for the 10th time already this season, A-State has tied the sixth-most such rounds in program history. Little Rock leads the field at 11-under par 277 followed by Santa Clara (-10), South Florida (-8), Stetson (-7), Long Beach (-3) and Middle Tennessee (-3). VCU, North Texas, Southern Illinios and Toledo are tied for seventh at 2-under par.

    Thomas Schmidt posted his team-leading 11th par or better round this season with a 2-under par 70 to stand tied for 18th individually. Schmidt had five birdies against three bogeys in the round. Devyn Pappas finished up at even-par 72, his 35th career par or better round to tie Wixson Hufstetler for the ninth-most in program history. Pappas and Hugo Ronnberg, also shooting even-par 72, are tied for 37th. Jack Maxey was 1-over par to tie for 52nd while Chris Somerfield was 11-over for 122nd. Playing as individuals, Pierce Johnson (74) is tied for 66th and Anthony De Schutter (75) is tied for 87th.

    The second round is played Tuesday followed by the third and final round Wednesday at Reflection Bay. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.com.
