JONESBORO, Ark. (4/21/24) – For the 11th time in program history, Arkansas State baseball (17-22-1, 4-13-1 SBC) finished a contest without a win or loss, tying App State (22-14-1, 8-9-1 SBC) by a score of 12-12 on Sunday afternoon at Tomlinson Stadium.

Dylan Heine made his 10th start of the season, allowing three earned runs on two hits and four walks while striking out two more over 3.1 innings pitched. Allen Grier finished the game with only one hit, but led the team with 4 RBIs after recording his third home run in four games.

After Blake Burris stole second, Cason Tollett delivered a grounder up the middle for an RBI-single to give A-State a 1-0 advantage after one inning of play.

The Mountaineers responded in the top of the second with an RBI-single from Austin St. Laurent and a sacrifice fly from Drew Holderbach. The Red Wolves tied it up at 2-2 when Hunter Ryan fired a single into right field during the bottom frame.

The tie lasted for just over an inning before Holderbach broke it with a groundball through the left side for a single.

After one A-State run scored on a bases-loaded groundout, Jared Toler landed a two-run single in centerfield. Austen Jaslove brought in another score after firing a shot off the wall in left for a two-run double.

Nyan Hayes capped off a six-run inning with an RBI-single as the Scarlet and Black took an 8-3 lead into the sixth.

The Mountaineers closed the gap in the seventh, beginning with a two-run double from Hunter Wilder. St. Laurent added one more run after singling up the middle to make it an 8-6 ballgame going into the final stretch.

Jaslove brought in his second RBI of the game on a fielder’s choice in the bottom frame, extending the lead to three runs. However, Xavier Moronta recorded a two-run single in the eighth to put App State one run away from tying the game.

Grier provided insurance in the bottom frame after sending a three-run moonshot out of the park to make the score 12-8. With the Mountaineers down to their last opportunity, St. Laurent recorded an RBI-single before CJ Boyd tied the game with a three-run homer of his own.

Neither side was able to score before a travel curfew went into effect, forcing both sides to settle for a tie. The last time A-State played to a tie was during the 2011 season, when the Scarlet and Black drew an 8-8 decision against FIU.
