JONESBORO, Ark. (10/24/25) – The Arkansas State Athletics Department announced Friday that plans are proceeding with the construction of a proposed 40,000 square-foot baseball Player Development Center that will overlook right field at Tomlinson Stadium and Slayton Family Field.
The proposed construction establishes a plan for the home of A-State baseball to continue its transformation into a modernized complex following the installation of a turf playing surface and new videoboard prior to the start of the 2025 season.
“Building a championship-caliber program requires dedication, vision, and the right resources,” said Vice Chancellor for Intercollegiate Athletics Chris Pezman. “Establishing a new baseball practice facility is more than just an upgrade—it’s a vital step forward in creating an environment where excellence thrives and athletes are empowered to reach their full potential.
“This planned facility will serve as the foundation for our pursuit of championships, providing our team with the sustainable tools and opportunities necessary to train, grow, and compete at the highest level. Together, we are investing in a future where our program stands among the very best, and every player has the chance to become a champion.”
The proposed two-level Player Development Center will include state-of-the-art amenities to enhance training opportunities for the Red Wolves and provide a diverse set of resources for the baseball program. The planned facility will house a full turf infield, three batting cages, three pitching tunnels, a weight room, multi-purpose meeting spaces, coaching and support staff offices and opportunities for premium seating.”
“This project will have long-term implications on the growth of our baseball program, providing us with a big piece of the infrastructure needed for future success,” said head coach Mike Silva. “The proposed facility will allow for player development all year as well as access to equipment that we didn’t have before. The recruiting impact associated with this facility is monumental, and it will have a positive impact on all areas of our program. I’m excited for not only our student-athletes and staff, but everyone associated with our program. We want to thank the many community leaders who are playing an instrumental role in making this project become a reality.”
The planned facility will not only enhance the student-athlete experience for current and future Red Wolves, it will also feature a premium outdoor-seating area with an indoor club available on game days. The new seating areas and aesthetic improvements to the stadium will combine to upgrade the game-day experience for fans and also allow for private and corporate event opportunities on non-game days.
“This is truly a community project that wouldn’t be possible without the assistance of many great A-State supporters,” said Chancellor Dr. Todd Shields. “The construction of this planned facility is a testament to what we can accomplish as One Pack, and continues the momentum we have with our baseball program under the leadership of Coach Silva.”
Architectural renderings have been completed by MNB Architects and CNI Construction Network, Inc., of Jonesboro plans to begin work very soon, pending project approval by the Arkansas State University System Board of Trustees. The facility will be paid for entirely through private funds as part of the One Pack strategy between Arkansas State University and the Red Wolves Foundation.
“The advancement of a campus with facilities like this one produces elevation both for student-athletes and the community at large,” said Dr. Brendan Kelly, president of the Arkansas State University System. “We’re committed to a competitive athletics program and are grateful for the ongoing financial and fan support of the community to help us achieve success.”
