MEMPHIS, Tenn. (9/20/26) – Sweeping doubles and winning five of six singles matches against Murray State, the Arkansas State women’s tennis team finished the Memphis Invite with 21 total victories, eight in doubles and 13 in singles.

“Overall, a great start to the season and really pleased with the way we competed as a whole,” said A-State head coach Sujay Lama. “We gained lots of good data and we’ll use it to work hard to improve in practice.”

For the second time in three days of competition, A-State swept doubles. Lilly Cvanciger and Sara Kastakoa were paired on court one and battled the Murray State pair to a 7-6 (6) win. Lara Margocova and Hanmare McAslin earned a 7-6 (3) win on court two while Carla Muro Castellvi and Meghna Arun Kumar picked up a 6-1 victory on court three.

Cvanciger earned a straight-sets victory on court one, 6-1, 6-2, while Kastakova won 6-0, 6-2 on court two. Margocova battled to a 6-0, 1-6, 10-6 victory on court four while Arun Kumar (6-2, 6-0) and McAslin (6-2, 6-2) took straight set wins on courts five and six, respectively.

“What an incredible debut for our two freshmen going undefeated for the weekend,”Lama said. I’m proud of how they handled their nerves and kept improving with each match.”

Kastakova and Margocova finished their collegiate debut weekend with a combined 12 wins, six in doubles and six in singles. According to TennisRecruiting.net, the pair ranked highest in the Sun Belt Conference and No. 4 among mid-majors as incoming recruits.

Playing in the second round of the pre-qualifying draw at the ITA All-American Championships, Anna Grigoreva came up short against Tegan Bush of LSU 7-5, 4-6, 2-6. Grigoreva was the first player in program history to play at the ITA All-American Championships and earned a first round pre-qualifier win over Alana Boyce of North Carolina.

“Amazing experience for Anna on a national stage,” Lama said. “She showed she is capable of competing with anybody in the nation. This opportunity will definitely help her confidence and motivate to go for bigger things.”
