JONESBORO, Ark. (8/30/26) – Arkansas State (1-2-2) soccer battled back and forth with Alabama State (0-5-1) for the 2-2 draw as freshman Elleigh Newcomb found the net twice Sunday afternoon at the A-State Soccer Complex.

An aggressive first half for A-State, the Red Wolves were spurned by a Hornets goal in the third minute, with A-State peppering the Alabama State keeper with seven shots and three on target in the opening 45 minutes.  

The second half saw renewed aggressiveness from both squads, A-State’s Elleigh Newcomb scoring her second goal of the season. A header from Ava Riehl deflected off the keeper leaving Newcomb to bury the equalizer in the 48th minute. A Hornets throw in passed all the way back to the keeper in the 57th minute gave Newcomb her second opportunity of the game, outdueling the opposing keeper to take an unopposed shot for the lead.

Just nine minutes later Alabama State lobbed a midfield ball into the A-State net to knot the score back up. Desperation kicked in, with three Alabama State yellows rolling into the books across the next 10 minutes. In total, the away side was booked for four yellow cards, with the Red Wolves earning two, all in the second half.

Arkansas State totaled 12 corners to Alabama State’s two, firing off 24 total shots eight on goal, while the Hornets accounted for eight total shots, five on goal.
