MOBILE, Ala. (5/16/26) – Arkansas State (29-24, 12-18 SBC) was unable to match the big innings South Alabama (33-21, 17-13 SBC) provided in the 2-6 loss Saturday afternoon at Eddie Stanky Field.
South Alabama jumped in the opening frame, loading the bases then scoring four off a walk and a pair of singles.
Ashton Quiller led off the third inning with his seventh homer of the season before South answered in the bottom of the inning with a two-run shot of their own.
Quiller again led off the fifth with a hit, then rounded home on an RBI-single to cut the lead, 2-6. Chase Richter entered the game for 3.1 innings of work, only allowing one hit and a walk while fanning out a trio to keep A-State within striking distance.
Down to the final three outs, AJ Mustow found a leadoff walk in the top of the ninth. A strikeout and flyout left A-State with one out to play with, which Lane Walton and Patrick Engskov used to rally a pair of singles to pack the bases and put the tying run at the plate. South Alabama found the final out by way of a flyout to right to set the score at 2-6.
