STARKVILLE, Miss./NASHVILLE, Tenn. (5/1/26) – Senior distance runner Brandon Williams set a program record in the men’s 800 meters and Arkansas State track and field claimed five event wins on Friday at the Maroon and White Tune Up and Music City Challenge.
MAROON AND WHITE TUNE UP
The Oxford, Mississippi, native clocked in at 1:48.30 and finished at seventh place in the event. His time surpasses Hannes Fahl’s previous record of 1:48.70 set at the 2023 Bryan Clay Invitational.
The Red Wolves swept the men’s and women’s pole vault events, as Gavin Schaer’s personal best of 5.22m (17-1.50) and Carly Pujol’s height of 4.11m (13-5.75) secured the top spots. Pujol has recorded a first place finish in five-of-six appearances in the 2026 outdoor season and has surpassed 4.00m (13-1.50) in each performance.
Selase Sampram secured the women’s shot put title with a throw of 15.39m (50-6.00) while Chris Boyd won the event on the men’s side with an 18.63m (61-1.50) mark. Sampram holds seven event wins this season, including four in the shot put, and leads the team.
Colby Eddowes was the first-place finisher in the men’s 110-meter hurdles after registering a time of 13.86. Overall, 10 Red Wolves established personal bests and one more recorded a new outdoor personal record.
MUSIC CITY CHALLENGE
A-State’s distance runners opened competition at the Music City Challenge and tallied four top 10 finishes along with four personal bests. Gabe Falting started the Red Wolves’ day in Nashville with a personal-best time of 8:37.91 and a 10th-place finish in the men’s 3000 meters.
Lizzee Winkler placed fourth with a time of 10:54.57 in the women’s 3000-meter steeplechase and Evan Stevens placed fifth on the men’s side with a 9:15.15 mark. Winkler’s time stands as the sixth fastest in program history.
Parker Noffz clocked in at 3:47.16 in the men’s 1500 meters and moved from eighth to seventh in the Red Wolves’ outdoor top 10 list for the event. Erika Krueger also joined a top 10 list after posting a new personal best in the women’s 5000 meters.
She clocked in at 16:54.48 and jumped to ninth in the program’s outdoor history for the event.
