JONESBORO, Ark. (4/28/26) – Arkansas State men’s basketball head coach Ryan Pannone announced the addition of junior forward Amadou Doumbia to the 2026-27 roster on Tuesday.

“Amadou is a 6’10, incredibly hard-playing big man,” said Pannone. “One of the biggest things that stood out to our staff was his ability to make 50-50 plays become 70-30 plays through his effort, will, determination and the physicality that he plays with.

He’s a really good rebounder, rim protector and shot blocker that we think in our offense, and with the really good guards we have, can unlock his game. We also see he’s got the ability to add a three, and that’s something we’re going to work on and strive toward and see if we can add that to his game to unlock the floor. He’s shown previously, internationally, his ability to shoot threes.”

The Bamako, Mali, native joins the program after stops at UMass and North Carolina A&T. He appeared in 15 games for the Minutemen as a freshman, posting a season best of five rebounds in five minutes of action at Fordham on January 15, 2025.

In his sophomore campaign with the Aggies, Doumbia made 23 starts in 27 appearances and averaged 4.0 rebounds along with 2.3 blocks per game. He posted a career-best 10 rebounds along with seven points and a block in his first career start on November 4, 2025, at South Carolina.

Doumbia’s personal best in points stands at 11 scored on 4-for-5 (80 percent) shooting from the floor and 3-for-6 (50 percent) shooting from the free throw line versus Mid Atlantic Christian on December 20, 2025. He finished second on the team in blocks and tallied a career best of four along with six points and eight rebounds versus Elon on Jan. 8.

Doumbia reclassified to the class of 2024 and signed with UMass out of Putnam Science Academy, where he was a top 25 center nationally and a top five prospect in the state of Connecticut. He played for Zentro Basket Madrid and the Real Madrid U18 team in addition to suiting up for his home country at the FIBA U18 Championship.

“On his visit, he gave off the mentality of just an unbelievably grateful good human being that we think is going to fit in really well within our community and with what we are trying to build culturally within our program,” said Pannone. “To be able to add someone with Amadou’s size, length, athleticism and effort with who he is as a human being made it a no-brainer for us with what we are looking to build for next year.”
