JONESBORO, Ark. (2/28/26) – Arkansas State (8-3, 0-0 SBC) fired on all cylinders in the 10-0, 7-inning run rule over Arkansas-Pine Bluff (4-8, 0-0 SWAC) in front of a record crowd of 1,228 at Tomlinson Stadium-Slayton Family Field.
A-State’s home crowd against the Golden Lions breaks the previous record from May 13, 2014 against No. 11 Ole Miss, which was recorded at 1,143.
A quick first two innings, starter Jack Nelson retired six of the first seven batters faced, with Lane Walton rocking a triple into left-center field before being stranded at the end of the first. A Derek Martinez double in the second also garnered no luck.
Cole Manuel led off the third inning with a single looper out of the infield, followed by Ashton Quiller reaching first off a hit by pitch. Lane Walton struck an opposite-field home run, to score three, Walton’s seventh homer of the season.
The fourth inning saw three more runs for A-State, Manuel advancing on a passed ball, then Quiller raked an RBI-double before scoring after stealing third and taking the final 90 feet with the throwing error attempting to catch him.
A fifth-inning RBI-single from Joey McLaughlin III scored Evan Griffis, then runners reached the corners with Manuel at the plate. Manuel doubled to right-center field, allowing both runners to score for the third three-run inning in a row.
The 10th run came in the sixth off a single from McLaughlin III, set up by a Lane Walton double and a groundout to advance him to third. Nelson handled the 6.0 inning out with ease, striking out six batters, allowing three hits, and walking two more for no runs allowed.
James Trimble debuted for the season, pitching the final inning. He struck out one batter while allowing two hits and no runs on 19 total pitches.
