TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (1/17/26) – Arkansas State women’s tennis battled hard in doubles and got a straight-set win by junior Anna Grigoreva but ultimately dropped a 6-1 decision at Alabama Saturday morning.
 
A-State (0-1) fought in doubles, falling 6-4 on courts two and three. Making her collegiate debut, Helena Bueno was paired with Grigoreva on court two. Hanmare McAslin and Sarah Millard came up just short on court three while Lilly Cvanciger and Carla Muro Castellvi suffered a 6-1 setback on court one.
 
Grigoreva earned a 6-4, 6-2 decision on court two in singles over Maria Andrienko. Alabama took a straight-set decision on courts one, three, four and five, but Sarah Millard battled to a third-set tiebreak. Millard dropped the first set 6-3, but forced the tiebreak taking the second set 6-3. Millard built a 5-4 advantage in the tiebreak, but Mary Sidelynk came back for the 10-5 tally to take the tiebreak.
 
A-State closes out its stay in Tuscaloosa, Ala., Monday with a 10 a.m. match against North Alabama. The Red Wolves home opener is Friday, January 23, with a 5 p.m. contest at Jonesboro Country Club against Tennessee State. The first 50 fans receive a free t-shirt and free pizza and Lamanade will be available.
