(11/30/25) – Arkansas State women’s basketball (5-3, 0-0 SBC) never trailed in the dominant win over Kent State (4-5, 0-0 MAC), winning 74-54 in the championship game of the Baha Mar Hoops Nassau Championship-Goombay Division on Sunday afternoon at the Baha Mar Convention Center.

The victory marks A-State’s first regular season multi-team event title since sweeping the field in the UTSA Thanksgiving Classic on November 28-29, 2008.

Four Red Wolves surpassed double digits in points, with D’Arrah Allen leading the way at 17 on 6-of-10 (60 percent) shooting from the floor and a 3-of-7 (.429) clip from beyond the arc. Zyion Shannon (16), Marlie Dickerson (12) and Mia Tarver (10) also reached double figures while Kent State’s Tatiana Thomas led the Golden Flashes with 17.

The Scarlet and Black won the turnover battle 25-15 and limited the Golden Flashes to a 15-percent (2-of-13) mark from three-point range.

Dickerson landed the first triple of the contest and netted another later in the opening quarter to join Tarver and Mimi McCollister with two in the first 10 minutes. A-State made nearly 60 percent (11-of-19) of their shots in the period to claim a 33-16 advantage, and matched the first quarter point total from the Nov. 28 matchup versus Houston.

Momentum slowed in the second as A-State shot 7-for-18 (38 percent) from the floor and posted two three-pointers for 17 points. Allen led the team with seven points in the quarter while the Red Wolves’ defensive effort preserved a 50-35 advantage entering intermission.

Defense highlighted the third as both sides combined for 30 points. A-State accounted for 14 in the quarter as Allen, Dickerson and Shannon registered a three-point basket to help the Scarlet and Black take a 64-51 lead into the final quarter.

A 10-0 run featuring back-to-back threes from Shannon and Dickerson spanned the first 8:18 of the fourth. Kent State ended a scoreless stretch that started with 1:50 remaining in the third to make the score 74-52 at the 1:42 mark. A-State finished with a 10-3 quarter disparity to close out the tournament with a 20-point victory.

Shannon was named Goombay Division MVP and Allen earned All-Tournament Team honors.
