JACKSON, Miss. (11/23/25) – Arkansas State women’s basketball (3-3, 0-0 SBC) held steady late in a team effort win over Jackson State (1-4, 0-0 SWAC) Sunday afternoon in the Lee E. Williams Athletics and Assembly Center, 75-69.

Bella Weary’s 12 points led the Red Wolves, going 4-for-7 (57 percent), and making her lone shot from 3-point range.  Zyion Shannon reached 10 points on 40 percent efficiency (4-of-10) total and beyond the arc (2-of-5). Wynter Rogers finished with 10 rebounds and nine points. Jackson State was led by Rhema Pegues, who scored 21 points going 7-for-11 (63 percent), with four of her seven landing from deep (57 percent).

A-State shot 46 percent (28-61) on the night, with eight threes made from 27 attempts (29 percent). Jackson State made 36 percent from the field (21-of-58) and made 50 percent of their threes (7-of-14). The Red Wolves outrebounded their opponent for the first time this season, 37-32, and had a 10 point advantage in the paint, 36-26.

A-State made the first shot, but struggled to stop the 10-0 Lady Tiger run immediately after. The Red Wolves settled in with a Shannon three and back-to-back layups by Marlie Dickerson. A- State ended the first quarter taking the lead as time expired on a Crislyn Rose driving layup, 25-23.

A 7-0 run in favor of A-State to begin the second quarter gave the Red Wolves some cushion, but Jackson State pulled back within three until another Shannon shot from the arc doubled the lead. Defense stepped up, holding the Lady Tigers scoreless for nearly four minutes until a JSU buzzer-beater three at half set the score 45-37.

Both teams struggled to find the net after halftime, A-State only scoring 10 points in the quarter with Jackson State scoring 15. The only shot from the field that landed in the final five minutes of the period for the Red Wolves was an Aniyah Ruddock three.

Jackson State stormed out of the gate in the fourth quarter draining a three and landing a put-back layup for the lead. Mia Tarver was the spark, taking advantage of a turnover for a fast break layup. Weary then took over, scoring five of the next nine points to stretch the lead back out to nine. JSU matriculated the score to only a three-point A-State lead, 72-69, with a three. Tarver then drained a contested three with 10 seconds left to seal the victory.
