ERIE, Colo. (9/30/25) – Thomas Schmidt carded the second-lowest 54-hole score relative to par in NCAA men’s golf history to claim individual medalist honors, leading Arkansas State to the team title at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational at Colorado National Golf Club.

Schmidt closed with a 5-under 67 to finish at 22-under 194, matching Dustin Morris (Colorado State, 2007) and Camilo Villegas (Florida, 2003) for the second-lowest 54-hole total in relation to par in NCAA men’s golf history. Across 54 holes, Schmidt had an eagle, 22 birdies, 29 pars and just two bogeys. His 22-under par 194 bests his previous program record of 19-under par 197 at the 2024 Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate. Winning medalist honors for the fifth time, Schmidt ties Zan Luka Stirn (2017-22) for the most wins by an individual in program history. Schmidt won by eight strokes over Steen Zeman of Long Beach State.

Jake Wallis shot even-par 72 in the final round to finish up at 9-under par 207 for ninth place individually. Chris Somerfield totaled 5-under par 211 for 27th, Jake Lile was 4-under par 212 for 35th and Milan Reed was 3-under par 213 for 42nd. Viggo Hed played as an individual in the Les Fowler Colorado Invitational and tied for second with a 5-under par 211.

A-State totaled 11-under par 277 in the final round to finish 42-under par 822, one stroke better than host Colorado for the team title. Long Beach State (-40), Southern Illinois (-28), UTEP (-26), Loyola Marymount (-25), Wyoming (-18), Sacramento State (-13), Texas State (-12) and Creighton (-11) rounded out the top 10. The Red Wolves’ 42-under par 822 is tied for the third-lowest 54-hole total in program history and best for the squad in a tournament outside of Jonesboro. A-State’s 822 is the second-lowest 54-hole total in Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational history behind the 46-under par 818 by Boise State in 2021.

The Red Wolves host the annual Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate Oct. 6-7 at RidgePointe Country Club in Jonesboro.
