JONESBORO, Ark. (7/21/25) – Arkansas State men’s basketball head coach Ryan Pannone announced the final addition to the 2025-26 roster on Tuesday, signing freshman guard Tim Matthews.
The Memphis, Tenn., native averaged 11.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.9 assists during his senior season at Cleveland High School (TN), scoring over 1,000 points with the Raiders.
“Tim Matthews comes to us from the Memphis area. He’s a 6’4 athletic guard that can score it,” Pannone said. “He’s a high energy and high effort guy that does a good job breaking the paint, being able to create plays for each other. He’s someone that’s got to continue to develop physically, getting bigger and stronger like most freshman.
He’s going to be able to make an impact with what he brings every day in practice and his mentality.”
Matthews also attended Hamilton High School, where he earned an all-region honorable mention and The Commercial Appeal Player of the Week honors. He helped lead the Wildcats to a second-place finish in the region and a third-place finish in the state.
He is the 15th addition to the roster for Pannone’s first season leading the Red Wolves, joining Jalen Hampton (Missouri State), Chandler Jackson (Florida State), Matt Hayman (Stephen F. Austin), TJ Caldwell (Ole Miss), Chudi Dioramma (Sacramento State), Christian Harmon (Gulf Coast State College), Jaxon Ellingsworth (UT Arlington), Royal Smith (Gillion Academy), Aly Tounkara (Lindenwood), Fredy-Salam Sylla (Eastern Florida State College), CJ Geathers (Chapel Hill HS), Joey Chammaa (San Diego), Weston Honeycutt (Westside HS), and Grayson Bennett (La Lumiere HS)
