JONESBORO, Ark. (7/18/25) – Arkansas State soccer head coach Brian Dooley announced the promotion of Phil Woods to assistant coach on Friday.
The Sheffield, England, native joined the staff as a volunteer coach in 2024 following a year-and-a-half as a coach and scout at FC Dallas. He also spent one season as an assistant with USL 2 side Texas United Football Club in 2023.
Woods received his first full-time coaching role at Missouri State, joining his alma mater in 2019. The Bears won four consecutive MVC regular season titles and three MVC Tournament championships during his four years in Springfield, resulting in MVC Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Tulsa from 2017-19, earning his Master’s in Business Administration.
As a player at Missouri State, Woods played four years from 2013-16 and was part of two regular season MVC championship teams. He was a MVC Scholar Athlete First Team selection in 2015 and 2016, receiving the MVC Commissioner’s Academic Excellence Award three times.
Woods spent his earlier years with Rotherham United Football Club in England before moving to the United States. He continues his coaching education and is set to receive his UEFA A License in Coaching.
