JONESBORO, Ark. (4/30/25) – Arkansas State senior Jack Maxey and junior Thomas Schmidt were selected Wednesday by the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Committee to compete as individuals in one of six NCAA Regional golf tournaments set for May 12-14, marking the third consecutive season and seventh time over the last eight NCAA postseason competitions the Red Wolves are represented.

Maxey and Schmidt will tee off with eight other individuals and players from 13 teams at the Auburn University Club, in the three-day event hosted by Auburn. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams will advance to the finals.

Marking the seventh time in the last eight NCAA postseason competitions a Red Wolf will compete, Maxey and Schmidt represent the seventh and eighth A-State men’s golfers to ever compete as an individual. Both Maxey and Schmidt played in the 2024 NCAA Austin Regional with the team. Schmidt tied for 20th at 1-over par 214 while Maxey tied for 65th at 14-over par 227. Maxey and Schmidt represent the first individual qualifiers for A-State since Luka Naglic at the 2023 NCAA Regional hosted by Auburn. Tanner Napier (2018), Zan Luka Stirn (2017), Lloyd du Preez (2010) and Zoltan Veress (1998, 1999) also participated in NCAA Regionals as individual qualifiers.

Maxey won the individual title at the Sun Belt Conference Championship to earn an automatic spot in NCAA Regionals. With his Sun Belt Conference title, he earned back-to-back individual medalist honors after earning his first collegiate win at the final regular season event. Maxey won on a third playoff hole to take individual honors at the SBC Championship, A-State’s second all-time individual champion and first since 1997. Including his win at the A-State Spring Invitational in which he posted a career low 8-under 64 in the final round, Maxey earned five top 15 finishes on the season and finished with a stroke average of 72.23. In 30 rounds played, Maxey logged a pair of eagles, 117 birdies and 311 pars over his 2,167 strokes.

Schmidt, the 2025 Sun Belt Conference Golfer of the Year, was among the top players in the league with a single-season program record stroke average of 70.87. In 30 rounds played, he finished 31-under par posting seven eagles, 123 birdies and 319 pars among his 2,126 strokes. Schmidt finished tied for third at the Sun Belt Conference Championship stroke play and had a career-low round of 64 to open the event. He also won both of his matches where A-State finished runner-up in match play. On the season, 22 of his 30 rounds were par or better and he finished inside the top 35 individuals in all 10 events, winning individual medalist honors at the Bubba Barnett Intercollegiate and UC San Diego Invitational.

The NCAA Championships’ finals will be conducted May 23-28 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.
