    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (1/21/22) – Multiple Arkansas State track and field athletes posted personal and season bests to open competition at the Vanderbilt Invitational on Friday.

    It started with the men’s weight throw, where Aimar Palma Simo finished fifth with a season-best throw of 18.71m (61-4.75). Freshmen Jacob Tracy (16.68 | 54-8.75) and Willem Coertzen (15.47m | 50-9.25) recorded collegiate bests, placing 13th and 19th, respectively.

    Bradley Jelmert then took the men’s pole vault crown, clearing 5.10m (16-8.75).

    In the men’s long jump, Carter Shell and Courtney Thomas moved up the program’s top 10 in the event, placing second and third. Shell moved up to third in school history in the event with an indoor-best mark of 7.69m (25-2.75) while Thomas’ mark of 7.54m (24-9.0) is eighth all-time.

    The Red Wolves notched a 1-2 finish in the men’s DMR, with the “A” quartet taking the event in 9:58.83, a time which is third-fastest in school history. The “B” squad finished just behind in 10:04.67, which is fourth-fastest in program history. The women’s DMR also saw one of the top times in the program record books, finishing second in 11:56.81, which is third all-time at A-State.

    Freshman Dawson Mayberry posted a strong first mark in the 5000m, placing seventh with a time of 14:46.70 that ranks third in A-State indoor history.

    Izzy Daines recorded a personal best in the women’s long jump, leaping 5.45m (17-10.75).

    NEXT UP

    A-State resumes action at 11 a.m. Saturday in Nashville to conclude the Vanderbilt Invitational. The event will be broadcast live on SEC Network+ beginning at 10 a.m.
