ARLINGTON, Texas (2/5/23) – Closing out a two-match weekend in Texas, the Arkansas State women’s tennis team was swept 4-0 at UT Arlington Sunday.
After a lengthy delay to let courts dry, UT Arlington (3-0) got off to a quick start winning the doubles point. Rebecca Brody and Sarah Millard came up short on court one by score of 6-1 while Yasmine Humbert and Abigail Thurmer fell on court two by the same tally. Anna Borovinskaya and Sofia Vdovychenko were deadlocked at 4-4 in their doubles contest on court three when the Mavericks clinched the point.
UT Arlington took a 2-0 lead in the match with Bruna Casampere topping Borovinskaya 6-1, 6-1 on court four. Humbert came up short against Francisca Vergara 6-1, 6-2 on court six to put the Mavericks on the brink of clinching the match. After dropping the first set 6-0, Thurmer battled back in the second set, but fell 6-3 to Tara Gorinsek to set the final margin.
On court one, Millard dropped a hard-fought first set tiebreak 8-6 in an unfinished contest with Liz Chileno. Brody faced a 6-3, 3-1 deficit on court two in an unfished match with Sarina Reinertsen while Vdovychenko took the second set off Ana Paula Jimenez 1-6, 6-3 on court five to force a third set in an unfinished match at court five.
