JONESBORO, Ark. (4/14/23) – Troy edged the Arkansas State women’s tennis team 4-3 Friday afternoon at the A-State Tennis Courts.
Troy (13-5, 6-3 Sun Belt) took the doubles point to take an early advantage in the match. Anna Borovinskaya and Abigail Thurmer came up short on court three 6-3 and the Trojans clinched the doubles point with Rebecca Brody and Yasmine Humbert falling 6-4 on court two. Sarah Millard and Sofia Vdovychenko were leading 4-3 on court one when the point was clinched.
The Trojans made it 2-0 with Valeriia Avdeeva topping Vdovychenko 6-2, 6-4 on court three. A-State (2-15, 0-9 Sun Belt) fell behind 3-0 with Franziska Ahrend downing Borovinskaya 6-1, 6-4 on court six. The Red Wolves chipped away at the deficit with Millard winning 6-2, 6-2, on court one while Brody won 6-4, 6-2 on court two to make it 3-2. Troy clinched the match with Olivia Elliott winning 6-3, 5-3 on court five over Thurmer, but Humbert won a thriller on court four 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 to set the final tally of 4-3.
