Trinity River Band to Perform Concert at Bluegrass Monday
5/8/2018
JONESBORO – The Trinity River Band will perform a concert of bluegrass music for Bluegrass Monday, May 21, at 7 p.m. at the Collins Theatre, 120 West Emerson Street, in downtown Paragould. Bluegrass Monday is a concert series presented by KASU 91.9 FM. The Trinity River Band is husband and wife Michael and Lisa Harris along with their three adult children, Sarah, Joshua and Brianna. The family’s first public musical performance came in 2007 at their home church in Florida. As they received additional invitations to perform locally and then regionally, the family chose in 2011 to pursue music as a full-time endeavor. The family now tours nationwide, performing at bluegrass venues, festivals and churches. The group has had numerous songs reach the Bluegrass Today top 20 radio airplay charts, including having multiple No. 1 hits. They have appeared on the Dugger Mountain Show on the Heartland television network and on the Song of the Mountains program on PBS-TV. The band has six CDs available, and their song “A Sinner’s Prayer” was named Song of the Year by Strictly Country magazine. Michael Harris plays guitar and sings in the band. He began playing guitar at age six when his grandfather taught him how to play traditional country music. Lisa Harris plays bass and sings. She has a bachelor’s degree in vocal performance, and she completed a master’s degree at the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. Sarah Harris plays mandolin and sings lead vocals for the group. She is a two-time nominee for the International Bluegrass Music Association’s Momentum award that honors young musicians who are making a major impact in America’s bluegrass music industry as performers and entertainers. Joshua Harris plays banjo and dobro for the band, and he also sings in the group. He was the featured lead vocalist on the band’s No. 1 hit “The Things We Do for Dreams.” Brianna Harris plays fiddle and sings in the group. When the family chose to pursue music as a career, she became one of the youngest professional fiddle players in the country. Seating at the concert is first-come, first-served. Doors to the theatre will open at 6 p.m. KASU will literally “pass the hat” during the concert to collect money to pay the group. The suggested donation is $5 per person. In addition to the concert, Terry’s Café, 201 South Pruett Street in Paragould, opens on Bluegrass Mondays to welcome bluegrass music fans. The café serves a country-style buffet meal beginning at 4:30 p.m. on the evenings of Bluegrass Monday concerts. Concessions will also be available at the Collins Theatre. Bluegrass Monday concerts are typically held on the fourth Monday night of each month. However, since Memorial Day falls on the fourth Monday in May, for this month only, the concert will be on the third Monday of the month. These concerts are presented with support from Bibb Chiropractic Center, the Posey Peddler, Holiday Inn Express and Suites of Paragould, the Northeast Arkansas Bluegrass Association and KASU. KASU, 91.9 FM, is the 100,000-watt public broadcasting service of Arkansas State University in Jonesboro.
