JONESBORO – Rachel Hinson, Lydia Mitchell and Tiffany Taylor, a trio of softball players from Arkansas State University, have been named to the National Club Softball Association (NCSA) Rawlings Mid-America All-Region Team. Hinson is a third baseman for the Red Wolves, Mitchell is a catcher, while Taylor is a pitcher.
Hinson, a senior from Vilonia, is a two-time NCSA All-America pick in 2017 and 2018. She helped her team win the national title in 2017 and the Red Wolves finished second overall last year. She has also been named to the Arkansas State Chancellor’s List since enrolling in school.
The 5-8 righthander leads her team in home runs with four, and 46 runs batted in. She also owns 39 runs, 46 hits, 15 doubles and three triples, all team highs, and a batting average of .742.
Mitchell is a 5-8 senior righthander from Russellville who transferred to A-State and played two seasons. She helped her team to the Mid-America East conference title twice and a regional championship in 2018. She was part of the Red Wolves’ NCSA World Series runner-up squad last year.
In addition to her responsibilities as the team’s catcher, Mitchell ranks third with a batting average of .500. She has been at bat 54 times and hit three home runs. She also knocked in runners 32 times, has 27 hits and 10 doubles.
Taylor is a junior from Portageville, Mo., and has five wins on the season with an earned run average of 1.36. The 5-8 righthander has pitched 12 games and has five saves. She has struck out 60 batters.
Additionally, she has 45 at bats, with 20 runs and 19 hits, as well as nine doubles and has driven in 16 runs. Her hitting average is .422.
The Red Wolves left Wednesday morning to make an appearance in their seventh consecutive NCSA World Series. The series begins play Thursday, May 16, in Columbus, Ga. A-State, seeded 12, opens pool play against fourth-seeded Penn State at 1:30 p.m. at the South Commons Softball Complex. A 6:30 p.m. game with 13th seed University of Vermont will close out the day. A-State will then take on Northwestern Friday at 9 a.m.
Also, in the NCSA May Rawlings top 20 poll, Arkansas State is ranked ninth, two places up from their 11th spot in the last poll.
