The Deal on Prepaid Debit Cards

What’s the deal? Do prepaid debit cards exploit people who do not have access to credit cards? Or, are they a valuable option for those who are locked out of traditional banking?

My take: prepaid debit cards are a legitimate financial tool for consumers, with one caveat: Think of them as an alternative to cash, NOT credit cards. Despite being made of plastic and looking like a credit card, debit cards are actually more like cash.
